Corporate Name Searches for Canada (Federal) Incorporations

A) NUANS Search Reports

Before the federal government will let you incorporate, they must approve your name. This is done by the same department that does the incorporations - Industry Canada. Industry Canada requires that you provide them with a 4R NUANS Search Report.

Recently, Industry Canada has made their database directly accessible to the public and has also provided user-friendly tools, including free NUANS pre-screen searches. This 'Do-It-Yourself' option is a viable option, as well as being the least expensive (about $20 + taxes) and the fastest (it's done in real time). However, please note that this NUANS service is only available for a federal incorporation. B) Pre-Approval of Proposed Name

This is a value-added service that is provided by Business Names Unlimited Ltd. The goal of this service is to provide you with a name for federal incorporation that has been pre-approved by Industry Canada. For a set fee we provide the following services:

• receipt and review of your business name information
• conducting NUANS prescreen searches based on customized search parameters
• consulting with you if there are any apparent difficulties with your proposed name with respect to its registrability
• ordering a NUANS federally biased 4R Report, which includes a 90-day 'reservation' of the name
• preparation and submission of a Name Pre-Approval Form to Industry Canada
• reviewing Response from Industry Canada Examiner,
• if Industry Canada requires further information, advising you as to your options
• additional NUANS searches, if required, at $20 + taxes
• preparing and submitting a second response to Industry Canada, if required
• conveying pre-approval or second response from Industry Canada, together with advice as to the options available.

Our fees for this service are $150 + applicable taxes and include one official 4R Report. Depending on the response time from Industry Canada, you will normally have an approval or initial objection in about three working days. Expedited service is available at an additional cost.
